The Kushabhadra River plays a vital role in supporting agriculture in the Nimapara and surrounding areas, especially for paddy cultivation. It enriches the local ecosystem and sustains diverse flora and fauna along its course. Culturally, the river holds spiritual significance as it flows near the Konark Sun Temple and Ramachandi Temple, both important heritage sites. Near its mouth, the river is influenced by tidal actions, creating a brackish water zone that adds to its ecological diversity.
The Bhargavi River is an important distributary of the Mahanadi River system in Odisha. Flowing through regions such as Pipili, Satyabadi, and Nimapara, it plays a vital role in irrigation and local livelihoods. The river holds religious significance and is often associated with the traditions of Lord Jagannath, adding to its cultural importance. Eventually, the Bhargavi drains into the Chilika Lake, contributing to the lake’s rich biodiversity and ecological balance.
The Dhanua River is a minor river that flows through parts of Nimapara and Delang blocks in Odisha. It is primarily a seasonal river, dependent on rainfall, and is mainly used for local irrigation. Though small in size, the Dhanua plays an important role in supporting paddy cultivation and sustaining rural livelihoods in the region.
The Prachi River is a historically and culturally significant river, often regarded as sacred in ancient scriptures. Flowing parallel to the Bhargavi River, it passes through eastern Puri, including regions like Nimapara and Gop. The banks of the Prachi were once dotted with numerous Buddhist monasteries and temples, making it a river rich in religious heritage and archaeological value.
